Into Spain

It was very windy as we left, not very pleasant driving conditions but as we reached the Pyrenees it was much better, especially on the old road into Spain. It is in a sheltered valley and not over the mountains ,like the motorway. We had decided on a couple of nights at Villanova Park, just after Barcelona.

We thought we had planned the drive around Barcelona for a Sunday but we could not work out why the people were working on the roads and the shops were open. We must be well and trully into Holiday mode as we had our days mixed up already and it was in fact Monday.Warm and sunny, we were shown to our pitch which was just as well as we would never have found it on our own. On Tuesday morning we caught the bus into Vilanova town for a look round , the town centre was in the middle of being dug up like most Spanish towns seem to be. The bit they had finished was very smart.

We had an interesting few moments sat on a bench while the paramedics in an ambulance arrived to treat an old lady who had fallen down and then a lorry tried to squeeze alongside another one and hit the bank shop front down. This caused some excitement for the Guardia local who called the Guardia Civil to sort it out.It involved lots of arm waving and shouting. It was nice and warm sat in the sunshine watching all the commotion.

Off again on Wednesday morning to Gandia and Camping L’Alqueria. We had hoped to stay for 45 nights as the price was good but the only pitches available were very small, the better pitches were all taken or reserved, mostly by the Dutch,we booked for 14 days to see how it worked out. The wind had followed us but it was very hot. It stayed hot and sunny throughout our stay. Thelma and Stewart arrived and we decided to head to Javea, although it is more expensive the pitches are much bigger and we could put the awning up and settle in for 42 nights.
